Poetic encounters between Moscow and Detroit in Berlin. Daniel Kahn, who comes from Detroit and has lived in Berlin for many years, is internationally celebrated for his mixture of klezmer, punk, folk and poetry. In his current program he approaches the Soviet guitar bard Bulat Okudzhava in his own new poems in English (with a touch of Russian and Yiddish). Okudzhava is regarded as a (regime) critical co-founder of the genre of the Russian author song and as the George Brassens of the Soviet Union. He was active against censorship in literature and signed petitions against the imprisonment of authors. At the beginning of the 1980s, Wolf Biermann translated his songs into German. Daniel Kahn is accompanied by the virtuoso Muscovite Vanya Zhuk on the Russian 7-string guitar. The live concert will be enriched with projected German and Russian surtitles by Eva Lapsker. An intimate evening of poetic inspiration that transcends all worldly, cultural and linguistic boundaries.
