The success story of the Saxony-Anhalt State Accordion Ensemble began 22 years ago: Particularly gifted accordion students - winners of music competitions such as "Jugend musiziert" and the "Deutscher Akkordeon-Musikpreis" - are to get to know and work on challenging original music for accordion orchestras in a selection orchestra. On 27 June 1996, during a seven-day working phase with concluding concerts, 30 pupils met for the first time. Since its foundation, the orchestra now has more than 130 members. Some of them are musicians in great demand today and teach this versatile instrument at music schools in Germany and abroad.
The fact that the Landes-Akkordeon-Ensemble under the direction of Lutz Stark regularly provides bravos is mainly due to its dynamic and colourful sound and the consistently outstanding interpretations of contemporary composers. The ensemble is an integral part of the akkordeon akut! programme and offers a new repertoire every season.
This year's programme also includes original compositions fresh from the press.
The Polish composer Bogdan Dowlasz created with "Playstation" an ironic picture of the everyday life of a gambler. Lutz Stark's "Meditationen und Allegro" (2018) was commissioned by the German Music Council (DMR) as a compulsory piece for the German Orchestra Competition 2020 in Bonn. It is a work in contemporary tonal language with a casual bridge to Ludwig van Beethoven, whose 250th birthday the music world will celebrate in two years' time.
Heinz Ehme (1919-2016) became a sought-after partner in the film business as a composer, arranger and pianist and wrote jazz numbers for renowned entertainment orchestras. The "Fred-Hector-Ensemble" later inspired him to write arrangements in big band style for accordion orchestras, in the instrumentation a novel modern sound, which became famous as the "Heinz-Ehme-Sound". In addition, Ehme wrote more and more concertante, demanding works. "Die Galerie" with its musical representation of various styles of painting is one of the most famous compositions and is part of "Klangwelten", the programme of the current season of LAESA.
